ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd women's basketball team held off a late Buccaneer rally to earn its second SSC win Saturday night topping Barry 70-64 in the McArthur Center.
Abby Whiteye led the Tritons with 18 points followed by a career-high 15 points from
Brooke Juday.

KEY MOMENTS
- Eneritz Larranaga put Eckerd up early, laying in the first basket of the game. Larranaga hit a jumper a minute and a half later that sparked a 17-3 Triton run over the next five minutes to put EC up 19-6. The Buccaneers laid in back-to-back baskets to end the streak, but Abby Whiteye dropped in a triple just before the end of the quarter to give the Tritons a 22-10 lead.
- The two teams traded points to start the second quarter until another 3-pointer from Whiteye and a layup from Zoe Richards put EC up by 16 points for their largest lead of the game. Barry controlled the final four minutes of the quarter with an 8-3 run as EC took a 35-25 lead into the half.
- Larranaga started the third off for Eckerd with a layup putting the Tritons up 37-25. Richards knocked down a triple with seven minutes remaining in the period, but the Bucs answered with nine straight points to cut Eckerd's lead down to four points. The Tritons pushed back up by 13 points before the end of the quarter, with four made free-throws in the final minute.
- The teams traded points to start the fourth with EC holding a double-digit lead until the four-minute mark when the Bucs scored nine straight points to make it a three-point game. With 48 seconds left, Whiteye drained a clutch 3-pointer from the wing to put Eckerd back up by six points. Emma Hergot laid in a basket for Barry, but Mikayla Kuehne made two free-throws with 17 seconds left to secure the win.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Whiteye led EC with 18 points along with three other Tritons scoring in double digits. She also grabbed two steals and dished out five assists.
- Brooke Juday scored a career-high 15 points against the Buccaneers.
- Octavia Loll controlled the boards with nine rebounds. Zoe Richards and Mikayla Kuehne both added seven rebounds, as well.
- Kuehne also grabbed three steals.
- Eckerd shot 50.0 percent from the floor marking the fourh time this season they have shot 50 percent or better.
QUOTABLE
"I'm very proud of our effort and resilience today," said head coach
Paul Honsinger. "We had another strong first half and rebounded the ball very well. We withstood a late push by Barry and hit some big shots down the stretch."
