Tritons Cruise Past Flagler, 82-60

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd women's basketball team opened the game on a 15-2 run and remained in control the rest of the way breezing past Flagler (Fla.), 82-60, Sunday afternoon in the McArthur Center.

KEY MOMENTS 
  • Eckerd started the game aggressively as they opened the first quarter with a 15-2 run. The Saints responded with a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to pull within five points before EC took a 20-14 lead to end the first.
  • The Tritons pushed their lead back out to 10 following an early five point-scoring stretch. Flagler pulled back within five points at the 5:44 mark before a Mikayla Kuehne layup ignited a 14-4 run to end the half with EC up 41-26.
  • The Tritons opened the second half with sharp shooting from beyond the arc with three triple as part of an early 11-2 run. EC maintained nearly a 20-point lead for the remainder of the third and took a 67-45 lead into the fourth.
  • Eckerd remained in the driver's seat in the fourth holding a 20-plus point advantage throughout the period. A Zoe Richards layup with 3:06 left gave Eckerd its largest lead of the game at 26 points before cruising to an 82-60 victory. 
 
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Richards posted her second career double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. She also recorded three steals and two blocks. Her 13 rebounds set a career-high and are the most by a Triton since Kacie Juday also had 13 on January 31, 2018.
  • Maya Price led all scorers with 17 points while Octavia Loll and Mikayla Kuehne rounded out the double-digit scorers with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
  • Eckerd dominated the boards holding a 52-24 favor while Loll and Abby Whiteye added nine rebounds apiece.
  • EC shot 50.0 percent from the field marking the fifth time this season they have shot 50.0 percent or better.
QUOTABLE
"We rebounded and defended well today," said head coach Paul Honsinger. "Offensively, we had success getting the ball into the post, which proved to be productive for us. It was another good team win."

UP NEXT 
Eckerd is on the road for its final two games of 2019, traveling to Lakeland for the Florida Southern Terrace Hotel Classic. The Tritons play No. 1 Drury (Mo.) Thursday at 12:00 PM.
