ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd women's basketball team opened the new year by etching their name into the Triton single-game record book breaking two records and tying another on its way to a dominant 106-43 win over Albany State (Ga.) on Wednesday night at the McArthur Center.
Eckerd was nearly unstoppable from beyond the arc, making 20 3-pointers and shattering the previous record of 15 made in a game.
The Tritons also broke the record for points in a quarter with 34 points in the opening period while tying the record for points in a game with 106.

KEY MOMENTS
- Eckerd opened the game on a 7-0 run before the Golden Rams made their first basket. The Tritons followed with a 9-3 run over the next two minutes to push their lead to 10. EC closed the final five minutes of the first quarter on a 16-1 run ending the quarter up 34-10 highlighted by a deep Haeli Howard 3-pointer as time expired.
- Eckerd continued its hot hand opening the second quarter on a 12-0 run with back-to-back triples by Eneritz Larranaga and Brooke Juday. The Tritons later went on a 9-0 run over the final three minutes of the quarter including a buzzer-beating half-court shot by Abby Whiteye to take a 61-17 lead at the half.
- Neither team made a basket in the opening two minutes of the second half before Albany State broke the drought with a layup. Chelsea Johnson responded with three straight 3-pointers as part of an 11-0 run. Eckerd ended the quarter on an 8-2 run and carried an 89-27 lead into the final quarter.
- An Armi Anttila layup with 3:51 left in the game put Eckerd at the century mark and Mikayla Kuehne's jumper at 2:12 gave the Tritons 106 points, tying the program's scoring record.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Eckerd's 34 points in the first quarter broke the previous record of 29, set against Millersville on November 11, 2016.
- The Tritons made 20 3-pointers, shattering the single-game record for 3-pointers made. The previous record was 15 set on January 30, 2010, against Palm Beach Atlantic.
- Eckerd's 106 points ties the record for points in a game. EC also reached the mark in a 106-17 win over Puerto Rico-Cayey on November 24, 2002. This is the third time in school history in which Eckerd has scored more than 100 points, also reaching 105 points in 2005.
- Eckerd went 36-for-63 from the floor, the most field goals made in a game since 2013.
- Johnson led the Tritons with 22 points, one point short of her career-high. Johnson went 5-for-5 and scored 13 points inside the first four minutes of the game. Whiteye, Juday, and Kuehne also scored in double figures with 13 points each.
- Kuehne also grabbed 10 rebounds recording the first double-double of the season for Eckerd. The Tritons held a 38-20 advantage on the boards.
- Eckerd shot 57.1 percent from the floor and 54.1 percent from beyond the arc, its highest shooting percentages in each category since January 28, 2017.
