Tritons Stay Hot With Blowout Win Over Palm Beach Atlantic

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Days after tying the program's single-game points record the Eckerd women's basketball team continued their strong start to the new year with an all-around dominant performance over Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Center.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Eckerd took a large lead early in the game after a strong start via a 21-2 run over the first seven minutes of the quarter. The run was capped by back-to-back 3-pointers by Abby Whiteye and Zoe Richards before Eckerd ended the quarter with a 27-8 lead.
  • The Tritons continued their hot hand beginning the second quarter on a 9-2 run.  Eckerd maintained its aggressiveness outscoring the Sailfish, 16-4, over the final five minutes of the half to take a 52-20 lead at the break.
  • Eckerd opened the second half with a 6-2 run over the first three minutes, then used another run of 10-2 over the final four minutes of the period to take a 41-point lead into the final quarter.
  • After a slower first two minutes, a Mikayla Kuehne triple started a 7-1 run for the Tritons in the fourth quarter. At the midway point of the period, another Kuehne triple started an 8-0 scoring run for EC before the Tritons closed out the game with a 95-50 win over the Sailfish.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Richards led five Tritons in double figures tying her career-high with 26 points. Richards went 10-for-12 from the floor while also dishing out five assists.  Chelsea Johnson and Yarden Danan added 16 and 12 points respectively while Octavia Loll and Kuehne scored 11 apiece.
  • Eckerd held a 40-26 advantage on the boards with Kuehne leading the way with eight rebounds while Richards collected seven.
  • The Tritons shot 53.8 percent from the floor and 54.8 from beyond the arc, marking the second game in a row that Eckerd has shot above 50 percent in both categories.
  • Eckerd has won the last five meetings against Palm Beach Atlantic.

Eckerd returns to action next week with a visit to Nova Southeastern Wednesday for a 5:30 PM start.
