ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd volleyball team was primed to win its first conference match of the season after taking a 2-0 lead over Saint Leo on Friday in the McArthur Center, but the Lions roared back to win the final three sets and complete a comeback victory over the Tritons.

KEY MOMENTS
- Eckerd pulled away late in both the first and second sets to build a 2-0 lead. Â Trailing 20-18 in set one, the Tritons won three straight points for a one-point lead and later took the final three points of the set after Saint Leo went back in front. Â In the second set, SLU erased a four-point deficit and tied the score at 21-21 before Eckerd won points on four of the last five rallies and take a two-set lead.
- The Tritons overcame a late three-point deficit in the third set, taking four straight points for a 21-20 lead. Â Saint Leo, though, retook control with points on the next three rallies and extended the match with a narrow 25-23 win.
- Eckerd seemed in control in the fourth set, holding onto an 18-16 lead, but soon found themselves trailing by three thanks to five consecutive points for SLU. A kill by Sarah Johnshoy got a much-needed sideout, but the Lions stayed on top and took advantage of three EC attack errors down the stretch to extend the match to a fifth set.
- A run of five straight points gave Eckerd an 8-5 lead in the fifth set. Â Saint Leo eventually tied the set at 10-10, then won four of the last six rallies to finish the comeback.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
- The match marked the fourth time this season in which Eckerd has gone to five sets. Â The Tritons are 1-3 in those matches.
- Asya Harris led Eckerd with a match-high 20 kills. Abbie O'Ferrell added 15 while Rachel Wisian (13) and Johnshoy (11) rounded out a balanced attack.
- Fernanda Reis set a new career-high in assists with 60.
- Saint Leo sported a highly-efficient attack, hitting .358 on the night and .517 in the fourth set.
