No. 16 Spartans Sweep Tritons

TAMPA, Fla. - The Eckerd volleyball team struggled to find a groove on the road on Thursday, falling in straight sets at No. 16 Tampa.

HOW IT ENDED
Final: #16 Tampa 3, Eckerd 0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-20)
Records: Eckerd 5-5 (0-3 SSC), Tampa 11-1 (4-0 SSC)

KEY MOMENTS
  • An early four-point by the Spartans gave them a lead they would maintain for the rest of the first set. Eckerd pulled within two points but got no closer as Tampa systematically pulled away for a 25-14 win.
  • Tampa repeated its first-set performance in set two, once again breaking an early 5-5 tie and continuing to add to its lead as the set progressed.  Eckerd's attempts to cut into the lead were seemingly answered at every turn while the Spartans took a 2-0 match lead after a 25-18 set win.
  • The Spartans again jumped out to a comfortable lead in the third set and found themselves ahead 13-8 before Eckerd went on a four-point run to cut the deficit to one. The Tritons managed to stay within a point for the next several rallies before Tampa pulled ahead by five and reached match point. Eckerd fended off match point on an Asya Harris kill but Taylor Fosler's attack complete the sweep for the Spartans.
