Brandt’s Late Goal Lifts Eckerd Over Lynn

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd women's soccer used a strong second-half performance to pick up a vital conference win Saturday night, topping Lynn, 2-1, at Johnson Field.

Eckerd took the victory behind a late game-winning goal from Celine Brandt in the 82nd minute. Stephanie Linton also added a goal for the Tritons in the 46th minute.

HOW IT ENDED
Final: Eckerd 2, Lynn 1
Records: Eckerd 5-3-1 (2-3 SSC), Lynn 3-6 (1-3 SSC)

KEY MOMENTS
  • The Tritons maintained possession throughout the first half registering four shots on frame inside the first 15 minutes. Eckerd nearly came off with a goal as Stephanie Linton headed a ball past the keeper in the 24th minute but it was disallowed via an offsides call.
  • Neither team was able to generate a quality look in the remainder of the half as the teams went scoreless into halftime.
  • Eckerd wasted little time getting on the board in the second half after Linton netted a goal just 33 seconds in. The Tritons worked the ball into the box and Lynn keeper Kiara Burga came out to gather the ball. The ball tipped off the top of Burga's hands and to the feet of Linton. Linton gathered the ball and ripped a low shot inside right post.
  • Eckerd continued to pressure the Fighting Knights rifling off three shots on frame over the next 10 minutes; however, none of the attempts found the back of the net.
  • Momentum soon shifted after the Tritons were forced to play a woman down when Siobhan Longmore received her second yellow card of the match in the 64th minute.  Lynn quickly attacked and drew a foul in the box on a breakaway two minutes later. Emily Weisberg took the penalty kick placing a ball in the top left corner for the equalizer.
  • Despite the player disadvantage, Eckerd still found a way to score again.  The Tritons earned two corner kicks in the 82nd minute, the second was cleared by the Lynn defense but found the feet of Celine Brandt near the top of the box. Brandt collected the ball, turned right, and placed a perfect strike into the top center of the net.
  • Lynn took one last look on frame in the 87th minute as Monica Rojas broke past the Triton defense going one-on-one with Casey Winn. Rojas ripped a shot at goal but Winn came up with a big save.
