Tritons Open Weekend With 3-1 Win at Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Eckerd volleyball team began a weekend road trip with a four-set win over Florida Tech on Friday night.

HOW IT ENDED
Final: Eckerd 3, Florida Tech 1 (25-17, 26-24, 22-25, 25-22)
Records: Eckerd 8-6 (3-4 SSC), Florida Tech 4-12 (1-7 SSC)

KEY MOMENTS
  • Eckerd blew open what had been a tight first set with a run of five straight points, taking a 19-12 lead.  The Panthers pulled within five points late in the set, but EC claimed the final three rallies - capped by back-to-back Johana Havenaar aces - for a 25-17 win.
  • The Tritons jumped ahead by four points early in set two and still led by four at 23-19.  FIT, however, won the next three rallies including two aces.  Eckerd reached set point on a Sarah Johnshoy kill only to see Florida Tech extend the set into extra points.  Consecutive attack errors by the Panthers ended their hopes of tying the match as Eckerd emerged with a 2-0 lead.
  • Eckerd found itself trailing at 15-10 in the third set following five straight points for FIT.  The Tritons battled back to take a 20-19 lead, but it was short-lived.  Florida Tech won six of the final eight rallies and stayed alive with a 25-22 set victory.
  • The two teams swapped the lead several times in the fourth set before Eckerd managed a bit of separation after taking points on four straight rallies for an 18-14 lead.  The Panthers cut the lead to one but EC responded following a timeout, putting away five kills down the stretch while playing without an error in completing the 3-1 match victory.
