Embry-Riddle Sweeps Tritons on Saturday

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Each set went down to the wire, but the Eckerd volleyball team came out on the wrong end of all three as Embry-Riddle swept the Tritons on Saturday in straight sets.

HOW IT ENDED
Final: Embry-Riddle 3, Eckerd 0 (25-27, 27-29, 22-25)
Records: Eckerd 8-7 (3-5 SSC), Embry-Riddle 11-4 (5-3 SSC)

KEY MOMENTS
  • After falling behind early in the first set, Eckerd won points in nine of 10 rallies and took a 12-8 lead.  The lead grew to five points before Embry-Riddle quickly evened the score behind two kills, an ace, and two blocks. A four-point run put the Eagles ahead 22-19 but Eckerd battled back and twice survived set point. ERAU finally put the set away after a Theresa Jordan kill and Jordan combo block with McKenna James.
  • A five-point run in the second set saw Eckerd take a 19-14 lead. However, Embry-Riddle soon erased the advantage and tied the set at 20-20.  The Tritons eventually reached set point but could not put it away as the Eagles countered with three straight points.  EC managed to fend off Embry-Riddle's set point three times before falling, 29-27.
  • A run of eight points in nine rallies gave ERAU a 17-12 lead in the third set.  The Tritons managed to fight back within a point at 23-22, forcing an Eagle timeout.  The stoppage broke Eckerd's momentum as Embry-Riddle won the next two points to complete the sweep.
