ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd women's soccer team breezed past Florida Tech on Saturday night at Johnson Field scoring three times while the defense posted its fourth shutout to earn the first conference win of the season.
In her first start of the season,
Paula Astiazaran scored just 3:14 into the match while
Stephanie Linton and
Cameron Westmoreland each added goals for the Tritons.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Tritons got off to a quick start, scoring in the fourth minute. After a long shot from Lashanti Williams deflected off the crossbar, Astiazaran collected the rebound and touched a ball that nicked off the left post and into the net.
- Both teams traded possession in the remainder of the first half with Casey Winn turning back four shots. The Triton offense added pressure in the final minutes of the half with four shots in the last three minutes, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
- The Panthers came close to equalizing the match in the 60th minute, firing two consecutive shots from close range. The first shot deflected off the crossbar and was cleared off the line by Haley Knowles, and Winn made a spectacular diving save seconds later to keep the Panthers off the board.
- Two minutes later, EC doubled the score on a Linton goal. Teagan Payne sent a thru ball to Linton at the top right corner of the box. Linton ripped a low shot past a diving Maria Sanchez Recuera and into the back of the net.
- Winn made a spectacular save in goal again for the Tritons in the 74th minute. FIT's Keira McCarthy had an open look on goal and fired a shot to the top of the net that Winn got a hand on and punched over the frame.
- Cameron Westmoreland added an insurance goal for the Tritons in the 79th minute. Alyssa Farmer one-touched a pass from the center to Becky Caraker on the right wing just outside the 18. Caraker sent in a cross inside the box to the left post where Westmoreland headed the ball into the upper left corner for the goal.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Eckerd outshot the Panthers 22-13 and 12-7 in shots on goal. The 22 attempts mark the second most the Tritons have taken in a match this season.
- Linton has scored four goals in the last four games for the Tritons.
- Caraker dished out her third assist of the season while Payne, Williams, and Farmer each collected the first assists of their careers.
- Winn posted a season-high seven saves in goal for Eckerd.
