Tritons Drop Tight Contest at Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Despite an evenly played match with both teams recording equal looks on frame, Embry-Riddle scored a late goal as the Eckerd women's soccer team fell on the road Wednesday night, 1-0.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Eckerd quickly worked into Eagle territory from the start registering three shots in the first eight minutes. Celine Brandt's shot missed high just 39 seconds into the match. Stephanie Linton took the remaining two shots during the span but Embry-Riddle keeper Fanny Kristiansson turned back the first and the second shot missed wide right.
  • ERAU traded possession taking four shots in a five-minute span starting in the 13th minute, but Casey Winn was there to collect the save on the three shots on goal.
  • Linton gave the Tritons another look in the 27th minute but Kristiansson again stopped the attempt. Neither team took another quality look on goal as they went scoreless into the half.
  • The teams remained fairly quiet into the second half as Eckerd didn't obtain a look on frame until the 69th minute when Johanna Andersson's shot was turned back by Kristiansson.
  • Embry-Riddle broke the stalemate minutes later in the 71st minute on a counterattack goal from Ragnheidur Gardarsdo converting on a short cross.
  • Paula Astiazaran and Brandt looked to equalize in the 79th and 85th minutes; however, both shots were stopped by Kristiansson.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • The teams both placed five shots on goal with Embry-Riddle holding a 14-9 advantage in shots.
  • Winn collected four saves in goal, all of which came in the first half.  
  • This is only the second time this season that the Tritons have been shut out.

Eckerd looks to bounce back from the loss as they host Lynn (3-5, 1-2 SSC) on Saturday at Johnson Field at 7:00 PM.
