AVE MARIA, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team got a pair of wins from
Will Stone but fell at Ave Maria, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon in the final road match of the season.
Stone partnered with
Matt Spasic for a narrow 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles over Sebastian Ramirez and David Zuleta. Â However, the Gyrenes scored wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles to carry a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Stone came through again in No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Zuleta. Â Unfortunately for Eckerd, Ave Maria took the remaining five singles contests to complete the match victory.
Matt Spasic and Brian Schmidt split a pair of 6-4 decision in the first two sets of their match at No. 3 singles. Â Schmidt went on to win the super tiebreaker, 10-3.
Alasdair Knox battled with Ramirez at No. 1 singles before falling short 6-4, 6-3. Â
Connor Masella nearly took the first set from Davin Hanton at No. 5 singles but lost a tiebreaker; Hanton went on to take the second set, 6-3.
The Tritons (4-10) return home on Wednesday to host No. 1 Saint Leo at 3:00 PM.Â
