ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Just as the women's team did yesterday, the Triton men's tennis team faced a nationally-ranked opponent in its spring season opener on Saturday.
The Tritons lost to No. 10 Embry-Riddle, 9-0, at the Bullard Courts in a contest that also served as the conference opener.
The Eagles (2-0, 1-0 SSC) swept through doubles play with the most competitive contest coming at No. 2 doubles where Juan Ortiz Couder and Lucas Bos outlasted
Matt Spasic and
Will Stone, 8-4.
In singles play, Stone fought to earn a point for Eckerd but ultimately lost a narrow tiebreaker to Deepak Vishavkarma (6-7, 7-6, 10-8).
"Will had a great match," said EC head coach
Ben Maxwell. "He fought off leg cramps to finish the match. He really played well."
Eckerd (0-1, 0-1 SSC) returns to the court on Thursday, February 22, hosting No. 16 Rollins College in a Sunshine State Conference matchup.
