Tritons Dropped by No. 2 Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team lost on Saturday at No. 2 Barry, 9-0.

The Tritons had their hands full, facing two doubles teams and four singles opponents ranked in the top 50 in the ITA.

EC (8-7, 0-6 SSC) put up a battle in doubles play against two of the top tandems in the country. Victor Appelqvist and Alasdair Knox hung close with fourth-ranked Ahmed Triki and Pierre Montrieul before dropping an 8-5 decision at No. 1 doubles.  Playing together for the first time this season, Eddie Lewis and Matt Spasic meshed nicely but eventually fell to No. 25 Carlos Gomez and Vivien Versier, 8-5.

Barry (16-1, 6-0 SSC) then took all six singles matches in straight sets.  Appelqvist and Lewis remained competitive against ranked opponents at the top two singles draws.

Eckerd returns to the court on Wednesday with a visit to Rollins College.
