MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team lost on Saturday at No. 2 Barry, 9-0.
The Tritons had their hands full, facing two doubles teams and four singles opponents ranked in the top 50 in the ITA.
EC (8-7, 0-6 SSC) put up a battle in doubles play against two of the top tandems in the country.
Victor Appelqvist and
Alasdair Knox hung close with fourth-ranked Ahmed Triki and Pierre Montrieul before dropping an 8-5 decision at No. 1 doubles. Â Playing together for the first time this season,
Eddie Lewis and
Matt Spasic meshed nicely but eventually fell to No. 25 Carlos Gomez and Vivien Versier, 8-5.
Barry (16-1, 6-0 SSC) then took all six singles matches in straight sets. Â Appelqvist and Lewis remained competitive against ranked opponents at the top two singles draws.
Eckerd returns to the court on Wednesday with a visit to Rollins College.
