ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team capped an impressive four-win week with a 7-2 victory over Ave Maria (Fla.) on Saturday at the Bullard Courts.
The Tritons (6-4) came out of doubles play with a 2-1 lead, then took five of the six singles matches.
"The men battled today," said EC head coach
Ben Maxwell. "We played well in doubles despite a really tight match that didn't go our way at the number one spot. Â I'm pleased with our result and the men's effort today. Â There was a lot of focus all around."
Will Stone and
Matt Spasic continued their stellar doubles play, dispatching of T.J. Fischer and Sam Perenich at the No. 2 spot, 8-3. Â The duo is 9-1 on the season.
Eddie Lewis and
Bruno Alves earned an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles to give Eckerd the early lead. Â Lewis, Spasic, Stone,
Connor Masella and
Alasdair Knox then won their singles matches in straight sets to complete the team's victory.
Masella led the charge taking every game from John Towey in a 6-0, 6-0 win.
The Tritons return to the courts on Sunday, March 26, with a visit to Palm Beach Atlantic.
