ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Triton men's tennis team won its third straight match after breezing past West Chester (Pa.) on Sunday at the Bullard Courts, 8-1.
Eckerd (3-3) had little problem in doubles play as
Victor Appelqvist and
Alasdair Knox handled Lucas Von der Heyde and Keanu Travelino at the No. 1 position, 8-4. Â
Matt Spasic and
Will Stone improved to 5-1 on the season with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, and
Eddie Lewis and
Connor Masella won by default to give Eckerd a 3-0 lead.
The Tritons then won two of the first three matches in singles play to secure the win. Â
Eddie Lewis, playing at No. 1 singles, made fast work of Charlie Rushing (6-0, 6-1) and Spasic did the same at No. 3 singles against Travelino.
Alasdair Knox and
Bruno Alves both won shortened matches to widen the final gap for Eckerd.
"I'm really proud of the guys today," said EC head coach
Ben Maxwell. Â "They stepped up and won some really great matches. Â We have a long week ahead so staying healthy is our goal this week. Â We are looking forward to a week of competitive matches."
The Tritons return to the court on Tuesday, hosting Lindenwood (Mo.) University at 3:00 PM.
