Box Score 2 CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team dropped a pair of contests at the EC Spring Invitational at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex, losing to Florida Southern, 3-1, before falling to Tampa by the same score.
Eckerd (1-2) put runners on base in the day's opener against Florida Southern but struggled to push them across the plate stranding 10 in the game, seven of which were left in scoring position.
The Mocs got on the board early, scoring in the top of the first on a two-out single by Leah Pemberton. Â FSC struck again with two outs in the fourth with RBI singles from Annemarie Tracy and Shannon Bell to take a 3-0 lead.
The Tritons threatened in the sixth inning after
Emily Knox walked with one out and
Nikole Van Gennep followed with a single.  Both runners moved up following a wild pitch but were left on base after FSC's Hannah Loyer retired the next two hitters.
EC then drew three straight walks to open the seventh inning, loading the bases with no outs. Â
Rachael Luckett's RBI grounder broke up the shutout, and Luckett reached on an error on the throw to keep the bases full.
However,
Amber Schaad grounded into a double play that cut down
Kaleigh Floyd at home as Kristen Beacham worked out of the jam to pick up the save.
Eckerd only had four hits in the opener but drew eight walks.
In the second game, Tampa plated runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead.
EC cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth on a
Dana Paul RBI single to score Knox, but stranded runners on second and third in both the fifth and sixth innings.
The Spartans added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, and Eckerd went down in order in the seventh.
Van Gennep (1-2) took the loss in both games, allowing two earned runs in each contest.
The Tritons wrap up the tournament on Sunday, taking on No. 17 Saint Leo at 12:30 PM.
