MELBOURNE, Fla. - After enjoying one of the best conference performances in program history, the Eckerd women's soccer team placed three players on the All-SSC Teams released by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
Stephanie Linton was named to the first team while
Casey Winn and
Haley Knowles earned second-team honors.
Linton, a freshman forward from Odessa, Florida, scored seven goals in her debut campaign which tied for the second-most in the conference. Â She also had two assists for a total of 16 points, third-best in the SSC. Â She is Eckerd's first player to receive first-team honors since Monica (Carrasco) Wilson in 2002.
Winn, a sophomore goalkeeper from Fort Myers, Florida, earned second-team honors after another outstanding season. Â Starting every game for Eckerd, Winn posted three clean sheets in conference play while ranking second in the SSC in saves with 80.
Knowles, a junior defender from Tampa, was part of a very effective back line for the Tritons. Â Knowles started 13 contests, playing the full time in her last 12. Â She recorded an assist in her debut against Auburn-Montgomery on August 31.
The team's three all-conference selections are the most for Eckerd since 2002.
Barry's Christy Grimshaw earned SSC Player of the Year honors while teammate Amanda Traynor was named Offensive Player of the Tear. Â Regular-season champion Nova Southeastern took the remaining three superlative awards claiming Defensive Player of the Year (Bailey Corbin), Freshman of the Year (Adanna Edwards) and Coach of the Year (John Constable).
The Tritons (6-8, 5-5 SSC) earned the No. 4 seed in the SSC Tournament and hosted a postseason match for the first time in program history.
