Tritons Out-Shoot Southeastern but Fall on the Road, 1-0

Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. - Playing in its fourth match in just six days, the Eckerd women's soccer team fell 1-0 to undefeated Southeastern University on the road on Tuesday night.

The Tritons, now 2-2 overall, struggled to capitalize on their scoring opportunities, ultimately costing them the win.

"They battled all the way through," EC head coach Danielle Fotopoulos said. "If we finished the chances that we had, I think it would've been a different game."

Despite outshooting the Fire by four, Eckerd couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. Southeastern's only scoring play came in the 40th minute after a perfectly placed cross in to Alyssa Kaminski at the top of the six, who put the ball away.

The Tritons earned eight corner kicks during the match but failed to convert any into goals. After a four-day road trip to Georgia, followed by tonight's trip to Lakeland, Fotopoulos looks forward to two days of practice focused around finishing. Eckerd generated 16 shots in the contest, placing seven on goal.

While Eckerd struggled to find the back of the net, the Tritons remained organized defensively, something Fotopoulos sees as a positive.

"We shifted well as a team and our back line was very organized," Fotopoulos said.

The Triton back line drew seven offsides calls and held the Fire to just five shots on goal. Goalkeeper Casey Winn had another stellar showing for Eckerd despite the loss and continues to be a big presence for the Tritons.

Eckerd will hit the road again on Friday for a two-game away trip to Daytona Beach, Fla. The Tritons will face Georgia Gwinnett College Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. and Flagler College on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
