Live VideoABOUT THE MOCCASINS- The 2015 NCAA Division II National Champions have struggled a bit this season after graduating the bulk of their production from last season to go along with a change in the coaching staff. However, the Mocs are always a dangerous team in the Jenkins Fieldhouse where they are 5-2 this season, including a 74-72 win over then-No. 24 Barry University, and average 94.9 points per game.
- The senior tandem of Dylan Travis and Dominique Williams has carried FSC this season. Travis, a 6-foot-3 guard, averages 22.0 points per game while Williams, also a 6-3 guard, scores 19.5 points per game. Michael Volovic (15.1 ppg) and Sheldon Zablotny (12.0 ppg) also average in double digits. Travis recorded the program's first-ever triple double on December 20 in a 128-84 win over Miles (Ala.) College.
- The Mocs are one of the highest-scoring teams in the conference and the country, ranking second in the SSC and 19th in Division II at 90.1 points per game. They do a lot of their damage from behind the 3-point arc, ranking sixth in the nation in 3-pointers made per game (11.3) and second in total 3-pointers made (170). Five players have made more than 20 3's this season, led by Williams with 41.
- On the flip side, the Mocs rank 293rd in Division II in opponent scoring average, giving up 88.0 points per game. They have allowed 90 or more points in nine of 14 games including a season-worst 112 points to Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on Wednesday.
ABOUT THE TRITONS- Eckerd extended its program-record winning streak to 13 games on Wednesday with a 70-60 victory over Nova Southeastern. The Tritons placed four players in double-figures led by 14 from
Jerrick Stevenson.Â
Obi Kyei recorded his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
- The Tritons have continued to put pressure on opponents by getting to the free throw line. EC ranks fourth in Division II in free throws attempted (431) and eighth in free throws made (290). Eckerd did struggle from the line on Wednesday, making just 14 of 33 attempts.
- The Tritons also have been a force on the boards, ranking 27th in D-II in rebounding margin (+7.0). EC has out-rebounded its opponents in 11 of its last 12 games and is 11-0 when out-rebounding its opposition.
- Balanced scoring has also played a big role in Eckerd's success this season with four players averaging in double figures. Senior
Jerrick Stevenson leads the way with 13.4 points per game followed by
Kevin Walsh (11.4 ppg),
Drushaun McLaurn (11.3 ppg) and
Trevon Young (10.3 ppg).
