Softball Takes Game One of Series From Florida Tech

Box Score

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Eckerd College softball team collected win No. 26 in game one of a three game series on Friday against Florida Tech, defeating the Panthers, 3-1.

Eckerd improves to 26-2 on the season and 7-0 in conference play for the best start in program history. The Tritons are now one win away from tying the programs record for wins in a season, which was set last year.

Amber Hay went the distance for the Tritons and picked up her 15th win of the year, tying current record holder, Erin Dixson, for most wins in a season. The senior struck out five batters while scattering five hits over seven innings of play.

The Tritons first run of the game came off a two out rally in the top of the third as Junior Kara Oberer slammed a double to deep left field bringing around Carrie Shere.

One inning later, the Panthers evened up the score taking advantage of an EC error.

Hay helped her own cause in the sixth inning launching her second home run of the season. The blast scored Kaycie Duncan who had singled her way on to give the Tritons a 3-1 lead.

Dana Paul collected two hits on the day while Hay, Duncan, and Oberer each nabbed one.

Eckerd (26-2, 7-0) will be right back on the diamond Saturday for games two and three of the series. The first game of the double header is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
