Box Score CLEARWATER, Fla. – On day two of the Spring Invitational the Eckerd College softball team took down Lindenwood University, 4-3.
The Lions wasted no time getting on the board scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Eckerd's bats had an answer in the bottom half.
Chelsea Armstrong singled, advanced to second, and proceeded to steal third setting up a scoring opportunity.
Kara Oberer promptly deposited the next pitch to the right center gap for a triple and an RBI.
Sydney Dinelli had a nine pitch at bat which resulted in a grounder to the right side that plated Oberer from third to tie it at 2-2.
Rachael Luckett singled to get the bottom of the second started. The freshman then stole second and third. Luckett scored on a Lions defensive miscue putting Eckerd up 3-2. Lindenwood managed a single run in the top of the fourth to knot it up, 3-3. The Tritons added another run in the bottom half with an RBI single from
Amber Hay to bring in Dinelli and grab a one run lead.
The one run lead would be all starting pitcher Hay needed. The righty went the distance for the complete game giving up two earned runs while striking out three and only walking one. Hay improves to 2-1 on the year.
Kacie Duncan and
Carrie Shere both collected two hits on the day. Shere and Luckett combine to steal four bags in the victory.
Eckerd (4-1) with take on Lynn University in a nonconference matchup beginning at 9 a.m. The Tritons will then meet up with Shorter University for the second game of the double header with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.
