Tritons Blow Past Gyrenes

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AVE MARIA, FLA. – The Eckerd College softball program gathered their fourth sweep of the year on Saturday, taking down non-conference opponent Ave Maria University by scores of 6-2 and 9-0.

The Tritons (11-2, 0-0) and Gyrenes (4-6, 0-0) were meeting for the first time this season and EC walked away early from game two defeating Ave in five innings.

Amber Hay picked up her sixth win of the season pitching a complete game from the circle and limiting the Gyrenes to five hits while striking out one.

Erin Dixson picked up her third win of the year from the circle in game two as she shut down the Gyrene offense and closed the game out in five innings.

Eckerd continued to swing the hot stick as they clobbered a combined 21 hits in the two games. Nine Tritons collected hits throughout the day.

Junior, Kara Oberer had a monster day at the plate going 5 for 6 with two home runs.

Game 1 – Eckerd 6, Ave Maria 2

Oberer put the Tritons on the board early in the top of the first as she slugged her third homerun of the year.

Three innings would go by scoreless on both sides as defense was the name of the game.

Sydney Dinelli collected her second hit of the game as she sent Oberer to second,  who led off the inning with a walk. A sac bunt from Kaycie Duncan moved the two runners into scoring position and Chelsea Armstrong doubled to deep left center to add on two more runs.

Kiley King tripled to start off the top of the sixth as the Tritons added three more runs. Ave Maria then found the stick and added two more runs.

Oberer went 4-for-4 along with Armstrong and Dinelli who each grabbed two hits apiece.

Game 2 – Eckerd 9, Ave Maria 0 (5 Innings)

The Triton offense was on fire in game two as Oberer again jumped on the pitcher early and sent a ball over the left field fence for her second homerun of the day. Armstrong then picked up her fourth RBI of the day as she showed discipline at the plate earning a walk.

Dixson led off the top of the fourth with a single to left field. Kiana Sladicki subbed in as a pinch runner and was brought around the bases by Brittany Mitchell who slugged a ball to right field. Ave Maria walked in their second run of the game and EC tacked on one more to end the inning.

With the game already in their hands, Eckerd would add on four more runs to end the game early.

Mitchell enjoyed a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI's. Carrie Shere, Hay, and Dixson each collected two hits respectively.

The Tritons will be back in action tomorrow as they are set to host the University of Montevallo in a twin bill scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m.
