Live VideoABOUT THE LIONS- Saint Leo has made a quick statement under first-year head coach Vince Alexander winning both of its games at the GSC-SSC Challenge including a 93-90 overtime win over No. 12 Alabama-Huntsville. Expect the Lions to play a very up-tempo pace under Alexander as they enter the night averaging 95 points per game.
- Sophomore Caleb Stewart earned the SSC's first Player of the Week award for his performance over the weekend. The 6-foot-9 sophomore from Schenectady, N.Y., scored 29 points in the win over UAH, and went 4-of-8 from 3-point range.
- Junior Marcus Dewberry was also a key cog in the Lions' high-scoring wheel last weekend, averaging 21 points per game in the team's two wins. He dropped in 26 on Saturday in the upset over UAH.
ABOUT THE TRITONS- Eckerd got a clutch 3-pointer at the buzzer from
Keshawn Ingram to tie the game on Saturday at the University of West Alabama, and the Tritons went on to win in overtime, 82-78. Ironically, Eckerd beat UWA by the same score last year, albeit in regulation.
- Senior
Jerrick Stevenson picked up where he left off last season, leading the team in scoring with 18.5 points per game. He's been nearly automatic from the free thrown line so far, making 17-of-18 attempts.
- The majority of the Tritons' scoring so far this season has come from the backcourt. Along with Stevenson's 18.5 points per game, guards
E.J. Moody and
Kevin Walsh are both averaging 11.0 points per game.
LOOKING BACKSaint Leo edged the Tritons in both regular season contests last year, 69-64 at Saint Leo and 67-63 in St. Petersburg. The Lions have won four straight in the series with EC's last win coming on February 27, 2013.
