Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - For the second time this season, the Eckerd College women's soccer team hosted Palm Beach Atlantic, and for the second time the two teams finished regulation time in a stalemate.
Unlike September's contest, though, neither team was able to put in the golden goal in overtime as the two teams played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at the Turley Athletic Complex. The Tritons scored in the 96th minute in the earlier matchup for a 3-2 win.
Eckerd (4-5-2) had a couple of very good chances in overtime, the first of which came off a set piece in the 97th minute after
Abby Sanchez was taken down from behind.Â
Taylor Tippett ripped a shot that ricocheted off the right post into the center of the box.Â
Corrie Bexley found the ball at her feet and tried to punch the rebound in, but the ball deflected off a teammate and out of the box.
The Tritons had another chance in the second overtime on a cross sent in from the right side to
Shannon Estes-Larkin, who headed it toward the left post. Unfortunately, PBA keeper Isabelle Granlund was there to stop it for what would be the last of her 17 saves on the night.
The Sailfish (4-6-1) took the lead in the 23rd minute when Haily Johnson dribbled free into the center of the field and fired a shot from distance that slipped past EC keeper
Angelique Ulmer into the upper right corner.
PBA maintained the lead until the 60th minute when a hand ball in the box led to a penalty kick for Eckerd. Tippett placed a hard strike to the left of Granlund's dive for her fourth goal of the year.
Both teams took plenty of shots from that point on, but neither could convert.
Eckerd returns to action on Wednesday hosting Tampa at 7:00 PM.
