Last Minute Goal Defeats Tritons

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – An epic battle came down to the final 28 seconds with the Eckerd College women's soccer team on the short end of a 2-1 loss to Saint Leo University on Wednesday.

The teams were evenly matched and battled for possession during the first 25 minutes of the game.

The Lions (4-2, 0-0) were the first to find the back of the net when Saffron Jordan got off a clean shot in the 30th minute to put her team up, 1-0.

The Tritons (3-3, 0-0) came out of halftime aggressive and managed several good shots to only be denied by the Saint Leo defense.

In the 71st minute, Monique Elliott broke through the defense to grab her first goal of the season and tie the game up, 1-1.

The contest looked like it was headed into overtime as the clock ticked down during the final minute.

The Lions were awarded a free kick which was deflected but put in the goal by Lindsay Perkins to grab the 2-1 win.

EC will look to get back to their winning ways on Saturday as they host Barry University for their conference opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
