Men’s Tennis Defeated By Coe (Iowa), 6-3

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College men's tennis team fell in a tough match to unbeaten Coe (Iowa) College, 6-3, on a warm Tuesday afternoon at the Dick Bullard Courts.

After picking up two of the three wins in doubles, Eckerd (1-6, 0-3 SSC) eventually dropped five of six singles contests to give the Kohawks (10-0 overall) the final advantage.

"Today was a tough loss," stated EC interim head coach Ben Maxwell. "Coe was a competitive team and these are matches we need to win. We had chances to win it, but we let them back in the match."

Sophomores Yosua Adiyasa/Frazier Springfield and senior Nikita Valuiskikh with junior Stephen Felman both took their doubles matches, 8-3, to give EC the early edge.

Both wins were the second of the spring season for each group.

Springfield collected the Tritons' lone singles win, defeating Coe's Sean Stokstad in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

"I'm proud of Frazier going out in singles and taking care of business," Maxwell said.

Adiyasa, Valuiskikh and Luke Burton, all took the first set in their singles matches before dropping the second and third sets against their respective opponents.

The Tritons return to conference play on Saturday against Florida Tech in Melbourne at 1 p.m. EST.
