Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - In nonconference action, the Eckerd men's basketball team took down Tuskegee University
Wednesday night, 82-68.
The Triton offense got going immediately after winning the tip-off with
Kevin Walsh driving the lane for two points and drawing the foul for the three point play.
E.J. Moody knocked in baskets on the next two Eckerd possessions to give them a 7-0 lead.
Ray Darnell was a big presence in the first half under the basket dropping in his first two points of the contest off the glass. Eckerd then went on a 10-0 run that lasted three minutes and gave them a 20-7 lead with 14 minutes remaining in the first half.
Tuskegee then battled back hitting a big three with under five minutes to play to tie it up 30-30. The EC offense got back on track in the final two and half minutes of the first half with baskets from
Malcolm Brunner Jr. and
Trevon Young. Walsh sent his team into the locker room with a 40-32 lead with a three point buzzer beater to end the half.
Moody was able to stretch the Triton lead to 15 points, 56-41, after drilling two free throws with
14:14 on the clock in the second half. The Golden Tigers managed to cut the lead to eight with under 12 minutes remaining before the Tritons pulled away one final time.
Explosive play underneath the basket from Brunner, Darnell and Young helped lead Eckerd to the 82-68 victory.
The Tritons posted five players in double digits in points with Moody and Darnell totaling 14 points each. Walsh and Young both finished with 13 points while Brunner came away with 11 points. As a team, Eckerd was an astonishing 92 percent from the free throw line while shooting 55 percent from the floor.
EC (5-3, 1-0) will head to Tampa this weekend for the Tampa Classic. The Tritons start the Classic
on Saturday taking on Cedarville University (3-8) with tip-off slated for
2 p.m.
