MONTEVALLO, Ala.
– The University of Montevallo (Ala.) scored three times in each half to deal the Eckerd College men's soccer program its first loss of the fall on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field, 6-0.

The Tritons (1-1-0, 0-0-0 SSC) were coming off an overtime win in their season debut on Thursday against Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) University on the same field played versus the host Falcons (2-0-0, 0-0-0 PBC).

Shots were tough to come by on the afternoon as Montevallo launched 31, including 14 on target, against Eckerd's four on the afternoon. Jeffrey Hessenberger and Bruno Mbamala each scored twice for the Falcons.

Montevallo fired off 11 shots in the first 21 minutes of play in the opening half before finally striking off the foot of Hessenberger, his second of the season after he scored in the Falcons' season opener vs. Talladega (Ala.) University.

Less than nine minutes later, UM's Nick Saboe gave the home team a two-goal lead at the 29:55 mark and just three minutes before the intermission, a freshly-subbed Steven Didik gave his club a 3-0 lead heading into the locker room.

A new start in the second half wasn't a kind change of scenery for the Tritons as Mbamala found the net midway through the final frame.

Another quick flurry of shots by the Falcons resulted in goals by Mbamala and Hessenberger, their second of the match, to close the final book.

EC senior goalkeeper Toni Virtanen made eight saves as part of his busy night behind the net while his counterpart, Brendan Ledgeway, turned away two shots in the shutout effort.

It was the 12th meeting of all time between the two schools in the series history.

The Tritons will return home and prepare to welcome Warner University in their Turley Athletic Complex opener on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The match will feature live stats and video/audio coverage streamed on EckerdTritons.com.
