ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– The Eckerd College women's soccer team took its first loss of the season in a non-conference game to No. 22 Rollins College, 3-0, on Saturday night.

Three different Tars (4-2-0, 0-0-0 SSC) recorded goals in the win while the Tritons (4-1-0, 0-0-0 SSC) couldn't seem to catch an offensive break on the night.

"We made some critical defensive mistakes," EC head coach Danielle Fotopoulos said. "Tonight was important for us to see where we are at and what we still need to work on. I'm looking forward to playing Barry next week."

Eckerd entered the night unbeaten, the only Sunshine State Conference team still undefeated besides the 2012 SSC champions, University of Tampa.

But the Tritons could not hold off an aggressive Tars squad. Mora Johnson scored the first goal of the night in the 30th minute with Paxton Sickler earning the assist.

Just four minutes later, the Tars struck again when Emma Jones netted another goal assisted by Johnson.

Emma Bloom tallied the final goal in the 75th minute when she took a shot that soared high over goalkeeper Morgan Crescent's head to the far left corner of the goal. Bloom was assisted by Sickler for her second of the night.

The Tars' defense held Eckerd to its lowest shots taken total on the season with just five and two shots on goal compared to Rollins' 22 shots and eight on goal.

Sophomore Michelle Spesshardt threatened to put the Tritons on the board in the 49th minute when she attempted to head in a ball, but goalkeeper Mary Spring was in perfect position to make the save.

Sophomore Taylor Tippett recorded Eckerd's remaining shot on goal, and junior Arie Anahory added two shots.

Crescent took her first loss of the season after posting two consecutive shutouts. She recorded five saves.

Eckerd plays its final home game of a six-game homestand in a non-conference game against Barry University next Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. at the Turley Athletic Complex.
