Box Score
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Leah Pemberton lined a two-out, go-ahead RBI single in the top of the seventh inning, helping push Florida Southern College past the Eckerd College softball program in the first contest of Sunshine State Conference play on Friday night, 4-2.
Pemberton's blow broke a 2-2 tie and Allasyn Lieneck legged out an infield single to plate another teammate in the next at-bat as the Moccasins (7-11, 1-0 SSC) held on to begin a three-game conference series at the Turley Athletic Complex.
The Tritons (10-11, 0-1 SSC) scored in the first inning to take the lead and came from behind to manufacture the tying run in the bottom of the sixth frame.
Freshman clean-up hitter
Kaycie Duncan enjoyed a 2-for-3 night at the plate and earned credit for both runs batted in to headline Eckerd's five-hit attack.
Florida Southern finished with 11 hits and rode the arm of Chelsea Oglevie, who improved to 5-5 in the pitcher's circle this season.
Duncan delivered her 10th RBI of the season with a double to easily score freshman
Kara Oberer from third after she hustled in with a triple.
Duncan then went opposite field with an RBI down the left-field foul line to score junior
Chelsea Jeffares as she began the sixth with a sharp single off Oglevie.
But Heather Brinkmeier originally brought the game even in the third with a single through the infield as FSC's Jordan Alexander singled to get the leadoff runner on base.
Alexander then crossed home plate as the Mocs scored on a double by Dayna Hunn, to make the score 2-1 in the top half of the fifth.
Another Florida Southern leadoff runner reached to begin the seventh and the Mocs managed the two key runs on three hits and an error.
EC junior starter
Whitney Bernier was charged with three earned runs and was just one out away from going the distance for the complete game. Senior
Logan Rohrbach was summoned to get the final out of the seventh.
Eckerd and Florida Southern will meet again tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
