MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Eckerd College women's soccer team dropped its Sunshine State Conference opener on the road to Florida Tech in a 3-0 decision on Saturday night at Rick Stottler Field.
Although the match was not Eckerd's first against a member school, it was the first to be counted toward its conference record. The 'Plus Four' format adopted last season requires each institution to play four members of the conference in non-conference games.
In the 21st minute, Florida Tech (6-2, 1-1 SSC) scored the only goal it would need to pull out the win.
Sophomore Aubri Williamson netted the goal -- her ninth on the season. Williamson was assisted by junior Courtney Hueston for her fifth assist of the season.
The Panthers added two more goals after halftime in the 73rd minute and in the 88th minute.
Hueston recorded the second goal, assisted by freshman Cierra Misner, and freshman Eva Banton was credited with the final goal of the night after her shot deflected off of EC goalkeeper
Morgan Crescent into the net.
Florida Tech outshot Eckerd 22 to seven, tallying 12 shots on goal to Eckerd's four.
Sophomores
Devon Morse and
Taylor Tippett each took a shot on goal for the Tritons (5-4, 0-1 SSC) and junior
Arie Anahory took the final two shots on goal.
The Tritons continue their conference schedule at home this Tuesday, Oct. 8, against Florida Southern College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. EST. at the Turley Athletic Complex.
