Women’s Soccer Ties Nova Southeastern University in Double-Overtime, 0-0

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
- For the second straight match, the Eckerd College women's soccer program battled a Sunshine State Conference opponent to a double-overtime scoreless tie, this time against Nova Southeastern University on Saturday, 0-0.

The Tritons (2-2-2, 0-1-1 SSC) and Sharks (2-2-1, 1-0-0 SSC) both had their chances, but in a well-contested non-conference tussle, no score was produced.

After the Tritons were outshot by a considerable margin against No. 17 Florida Tech, Eckerd manufactured a handful of scoring opportunities against the NSU defense.

Freshman forward Devon Morse had a breakaway down the middle of the box in the 28th minute, but Sharks' goalkeeper Amanda Kopale made a slide kick save at the last minute to prevent what looked to be a sure EC score.

Just a few minutes prior, sophomore Arie Anahory blasted a shot from 25 yards out that was just high of the net.

Nova Southeastern, led by speedy forward Malin Broberg, was frustrated all evening by the Tritons' defense and rising sophomore netminder Morgan Crescent.

Broberg sprayed an arsenal of shots from all over the field, but to no avail.

In the 18th minute, a freshly-subbed Tori Vives slammed a shot against the post. With just under 20 minutes in regulation, Broberg lined a header wide right.

To cap the NSU offensive frustration, a well-placed header by Dilja Olafsdottir off a corner kick was right into the waiting arms of Crescent with 10 minutes until the first overtime period.

Anahory nearly took advantage of a long free kick in the second overtime period as it just curled left of the net at the last moment.
Crescent tied her season-high total of 13 saves and each one had the fans holding its breath.

By playing a combined 220 scoreless minutes this week with 62 shots faced and 26 saves, she made her case for Defensive SSC Player of the Week honors.

The Sharks had 25 shots against the Tritons' 11.

The Tritons are on the road next Wednesday against Saint Leo University in an SSC matchup. The match is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m.
