Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
– Senior pitching ace Joey Cuda recorded a season-high 12 strikeouts and allowed only four hits as the Eckerd College baseball program rolled to a 7-0 win over Florida Memorial University Friday night at the Turley Athletic Complex.

The reigning Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Year stuck out four consecutive batters over the course of the second and third innings and struck out the side in the fifth.

Eckerd (9-4, 0-0 SSC) scored first in the bottom of the third inning as senior David Regidor singled to center field to bring in senior Dan Capra. The Tritons also extended their current win streak to five straight games.

In the bottom of the fifth inning Eckerd extended their lead to five with a two-out, four-run rally. After Capra singled to center field, senior Alex Del Monte singled back to center as Capra scored after the center fielder lost track of the ball in the grass.

An errant throw by FMU's third baseman allowed senior David Regidor to reach, allowing Del Monte to score. Junior Lee Spinelle then homered to left field to bring in Regidor and extend the lead to five runs.

Eckerd took advantage of Florida Memorial's fielding errors again in the sixth as Joe McLemore struck out swinging, but reached first on a wild pitch. Senior Joey LaRose singled and advanced to third base on a throwing error by the third basemen as McLemore scored from first base. Senior Aaron Shapiro doubled to deep center field to drive in LaRose but was thrown out at third as he tried to leg out the triple.

Senior pitcher Matt Ramsey relieved Cuda and worked his way out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam. After freshman Jordan Suarez popped out to the shortstop, Ramsey struck out senior Ruddy Ruiz to get himself out of the jam.

Eckerd will be back in action tomorrow as it faces the same Florida Memorial squad in a doubleheader that will begin at noon. Live stats will be available for the game with live video, but no audio commentary due to short-staffed personnel.
