ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Potential solo first-place implications are on the line in one matchup and a quest for redemption takes center stage in another as the rivalry between the Eckerd College men's and women's basketball programs and Rollins College heats up to a different level on Saturday.
The Tritons host the Tars tomorrow in the McArthur Center with scheduled start times of 2 and 4 p.m. Live stats with live video/audio commentary will be streamed live on
www.eckerdtritons.com.
The Eckerd men are winners of three straight and six of their last seven. Currently tied with Rollins and Florida Tech at the top of the Sunshine State Conference standings with a 7-3 league record, the Tritons have a chance to complete the regular-season sweep against the Tars tomorrow.
Eckerd toppled Rollins in an adrenaline-filled overtime clash in Winter Park, 74-70, earlier this year and the stakes will be once again raised in Saturday's battle.
Tritons' Head Coach
Tom Ryan will be looking to earn win No. 301 in his career after he reached the 300-win plateau earlier this week at Nova Southeastern University.
The women will look for their third consecutive win after toppling Nova Southeastern and Florida Tech in order to even up the regular-season series against the 14th-ranked Tars, currently in the driver's seat of the SSC.
Senior
Linsey Niles scored 10 points against Rollins back on Jan. 7 in Warden Arena.
Eckerd is currently tied for fourth in the conference standings at 6-4 with Lynn University.
