Women’s Soccer Engages Barry University in Double-Overtime Stalemate to Close Regular Season, 1-1

Box Score

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.
- After a hard-fought double-overtime battle, the Eckerd College women's soccer program rallied to end a memorable regular season in a tie against Barry University on Saturday, 1-1.

With just 10 seconds off the clock in the first half, the Tritons (9-6-3, 3-4-1 SSC) fell behind the Buccaneers (7-6-2, 3-4-1 SSC) as Katie Lamendola assisted teammate Sarah Wolfer for the first goal of the match.

Wolfer's quick strike is tied for the third-fastest goal from the start of a game in NCAA Division II history. Michelle Rutigliano of C.W. Post scored :10 seconds into the contest against Queens of New York on Oct. 9, 1999.

The record belongs to Jennifer Prior of Saginaw Valley State against Rochester College on Sept. 24, 2003. Wolfer's goal is a Sunshine State Conference record, coming one second faster than Katie Katzmark of Lynn against Francis Marion on Oct. 3, 1998.

Eckerd fired off one shot in the first half, coming from freshman Devon Morse, while Barry fired off 17 shots.

Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Crescent had seven saves for the Tritons in the first 45 minutes.

The Tritons came out hot in the second half, firing off seven shots on Buccaneers goalie Becca Rogers. In the 77th minute, Morse placed a free kick perfectly for the head of senior Adrianna Garcia, who connected with the back of the net to tie the match.

With the score still knotted up at the end of regulation, the Tritons and the Bucs extended the game to a maximum 110 minutes.

Eckerd's defense held strong as Crescent ended the night with 12 saves to the Bucs' two.

After a record-breaking season, the Tritons clinched the fifth seed in the Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Championship when the bracket was released earlier this week.

They will head to Fort Lauderdale for the first round of the tournament on Tuesday night, facing No. 4 seed Nova Southeastern. This is the first time in school history the Eckerd women's soccer program will appear in the conference tournament.
