Box Score
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic University snapped a halftime tie with a flurry of goals in the second half to eventually pull away from the Eckerd College men's soccer program on Saturday afternoon, 5-2.
Kenny Hogg and Evan Singlar each scored twice for the Sailfish (11-2 overall).
EC junior midfielder
Mark Lee scored his fifth goal of the season shortly after the opening whistle and sophomore
Nick Murawski contributed to the offensive cause with his second goal of the fall late in the second half.
Murawski also picked up his fifth assist to give him nine points on the year, the fourth-best total on the team. Lee ranks third with 10 points, all accounted from goals.
Sophomore forward and two-time Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Matt Dolan also collected his team-best 15th point with an assist of his own.
The Tritons (7-7-1, 4-3-1 SSC) dropped back-to-back contests after winning three in a row as the regular season winds down to a close.
“Palm Beach is a very good team,” EC Head Coach Steve Magee said. “We started well and the penalty kick was the turning point in the game. From then on, it was very difficult for us to fight back. The effort was there and we'll look to regroup for Senior Night (on Tuesday).”
The Tritons stunned the home crowd early on as a play from midfield resulted in a Lee quick strike. His shot from the corner rattled the net and gave EC an early 1-0 lead.
In the 28th minute, the Sailfish knotted things up and the score would remain tied until the intermission.
Shortly into the second half is where the tide turned in favor of Palm Beach Atlantic. After a hand ball was called in the box, resulting in an automatic yellow card and penalty kick, Hogg put the Sailfish up on top.
Hogg wasn't done and his 19th goal of the season just 13 minutes later gave PBA a 3-1 cushion. The Sailfish scored their fourth consecutive goal in the 69th minute as Singlar scored unassisted.
Murawski brought the Tritons to a two-goal deficit with seven minutes remaining in regulation, but the damage had already been done.
The Tritons will honor their senior class next Tuesday night against Florida Southern College at 7 p.m. at the Turley Athletic Complex. Since EC already completed its portion of the conference schedule, the matchup against the Mocs is classified as non-conference.
