ST. PETERSBURG – The Eckerd men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest at home on Sunday to the Barton Bulldogs.
The two teams played just over 20 minutes of scoreless soccer before lightning in the area caused about a two-hour weather delay. Action resumed around 7 p.m. and the visitors struck quickly following the break with a goal in the 34th minute. Barton held a 7-2 shot advantage in the first half.
Trent Murphy had three of his five saves in the opening period.
Eckerd doubled up Barton in shots at 4-2 through the final 45 minutes, with attempts by
Gavin Spuler and
Reece Witt both on the mark in the final 20 minutes. Witt led the team with three shots.
The Tritons will be back in action next weekend to take on No. 10 Mississippi Christian.
