Box Score

SAINT LEO, Fla.
– Offensive opportunities were tough to come by as the Eckerd College women's soccer team fell victim in shutout fashion to open the fall campaign against The University of West Georgia on Friday, 0-3, in the Saint Leo University-hosted tournament.

The Tritons (0-1, 0-0 SSC) were outshot by a margin of 29-7 against the Wolves (1-0, 0-0 GSC), who cashed in on goals in the 21st, 51st and 72nd minutes.

UWG's Elyse Boileau converted the Wolves' first score on an unassisted blast from the left edge of the box at the 21:57 mark.

With neither team finding the net again before halftime, the Tritons' defense held strong as West Georgia peppered nine more shots in a near 23-minute span until the break.

But shortly out of the intermission, the Wolves' Cydney Raymond netted her first goal of the year on a feed from by Kira Cooper to give West Georgia a 2-0 advantage.

The Wolves' Daesha Brown added another insurance score at the 72:20 mark as a result off a well-executed corner kick opportunity.

Freshman forward Arielle Anahory accounted for five of the Tritons' seven total shots. She nearly put the Tritons on the board in the early going, directing a header that ricocheted off the post in the seventh minute.

West Georgia netminder Mary Laza made a pair of saves to record the shutout win.

Eckerd freshman goalkeeper Lauren Fernandez also went the distance and was credited with 11 saves in her collegiate debut.

The Tritons return to the friendly confines of Turley Athletics Complex for their home opener on Sunday against Florida Memorial University. Action is scheduled to get underway with a noon start.
