ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Megan Camp's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Eckerd College softball team to a 6-5 victory over visiting Lynn University in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
The Tritons kept the momentum in the second game, scoring five runs in the first inning en route to a 13-0 win.
Camp's single in the opener helped the Tritons (14-34, 2-16 Sunshine State Conference) overcome an early 4-0 deficit. The Tritons tied the game at 4-4 thanks to a three-run fourth inning.
After the Fighting Knights (10-34, 5-13) made it 5-4 in the sixth, Eckerd fought back to tie it thanks to an RBI single from
Kirsten Cox in the bottom of the frame.
Camp then won it in the seventh, plating
Kelly Coston who led off the inning with a walk.
In Game Two,
Ashleigh Bynum and
Kaitlyn Dougherty each hit home runs to help Eckerd take a five-inning, mercy-rule victory. Bynum hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and Dougherty launched a grand slam during a five-run third-inning.
The Tritons pounded out 10 hits, including two each from Cox,
Alex Sasso and
Kristen Schurr. Sasso (5-13) also got the win in the circle, tossing four shutout innings while scattering four hits. She also struck out two.
Sasso finished the day 4-for-6 with an RBI and four runs scored at the plate.
Eckerd improved to 3-1 against Lynn this season.
The Tritons will continue SSC play at 6 p.m. on Thursday against Tampa at the Turley Athletic Complex.
