ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Southeastern (Fla.) scored three runs in the final two innings to take a 6-3 win over the Eckerd College baseball team on Tuesday evening.
Kevin Kunnen went 2-for-4, including an RBI double in the eighth, to help the Fire (28-13) defeat Eckerd for the second time in three meetings this year.
Shane Casey also went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Kevin Gregg went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Reliever Josh Estridge got the win, tossing four shutout innings while allowing only one hit. Phillip Kish shut down the Tritons in the ninth to pick up the save.
Three Southeastern relievers combined to hold Eckerd to just one hit in six innings.
The Fire broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth on a two-out Eckerd error, and Kunnen added another run with an RBI double to right.
Southeastern made it 6-3 in the ninth on a sacrifice fly.
The Tritons got to Southeastern starter Kyle Young for nine hits and three runs in three innings.
Eckerd will host Nova Southeastern in a three-game Sunshine State Conference series this weekend at the Turley Athletic Complex. The first game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday night.
