CLEARWATER, Fla. – Freshman right-hander
Kaitlyn Dougherty tossed her first career shutout to lead the Eckerd College softball team to a 5-0 win over Lynn on Friday at the EC Invitational.
Dougherty scattered six hits and struck out two to help Eckerd (4-8) split its first two games of the three-day event.
Earlier in the day, UMass Lowell scored six runs in the first inning to take a 6-1 victory over the Tritons. Elyssa Boris (1-0) went 6 1/3 innings in the circle and hit a three-run home run to lead the River Hawks (1-1).
But in the second game, Dougherty was in control, and the Tritons used a four-run sixth inning to break it open.
Chelsea Jeffares had a two-run single, and
Ashleigh Bynum also had an RBI hit.
The Tritons tallied five hits and took advantage of three Lynn errors.
Eckerd will continue tournament play at 11 a.m. on Saturday against Nova Southeastern. The Tritons will then play Palm Beach Atlantic at 1:30 p.m. All games are at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex.
