ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College men's basketball team shot 65 percent in the second half en route to an 87-73 win over visiting Saint Leo on Wednesday at the McArthur Center.
Senior guard John Harper scored 17 points and was one of four Tritons in double figures, as Eckerd (20-6, 11-5 Sunshine State Conference) closed out league play with its fifth straight win.
Alex Bodney scored 12 points, while seniors Lance Kearse and Dale Carn had 11 and 10 points, respectively. Harper, Kearse, and Carn, along with Nick Agress, Adio Faucher and Chris Gray were honored prior to the game as part of “Senior Night” festivities.
Saint Leo (11-16, 1-14) was led by Quentin Cullop, who scored a game-high 26 points on 8-for-21 shooting. The Lions shot just 30 percent in the first half and 38 percent overall.
Eckerd took advantage of Saint Leo's cold start by grabbing a 31-23 lead at halftime. The Tritons never had a lead less than seven points in the second half.
Eckerd shot 54 percent overall. Carn and Agress led Eckerd with seven rebounds each.
The Tritons will close out the regular season on Saturday at Palm Beach Atlantic. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
