Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.
- On a chilly Friday evening to commemorate Senior Night, a valiant effort by the Eckerd College women's soccer program fell just short against the University of Tampa, 1-0.

The Tritons were in pursuit of their third consecutive win before a goal in the 61st minute was enough to break a scoreless defensive struggle against the Spartans and end EC's brief streak.

Tonight's match was ended early in the 73rd minute.

Seniors Brianna Murphy, Callie Pederson and Ella Miller, all started in their final game at home on Senior Night. Together, they were
recognized in an honorary pregame ceremony for their career contributions to the program.

The Tritons and Spartans dueled to a scoreless first period and even though Tampa peppered 10 shots, none were on goal.

EC was dealt a tough blow as the first half came to a close when Kelsey Taber was issued her second yellow card and sent off with the red. Unfortunately, the Tritons would have to play the remainder of the game shorthanded.

Eckerd was unfazed by the one-man deficiency in the second half. Colleen O'Brien had a one-bounce header that was saved and Morgan Crescent had a number of instinctive saves from her goalkeeper position.

Crescent also stopped an Amber Pennybaker shot from point-blank after the ball was crossed from the box. She made six saves and stopped even more rifled cross attempts or sharply-lined corner kicks headed her direction.

But Tampa's persistence paid off eventually as Jazmin Perry flooded the box and the ball ricocheted off several players and into the back of the net.

The Tritons will rest until next Wednesday when they travel to Florida Tech for a 3 p.m. match in Melbourne.
