ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Lynn University's Chelsea Patterson made three free throws with 7.9 seconds left to lead the visiting Fighting Knights to a 74-73 come-from-behind win over the Eckerd College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon.
Patterson, who scored a game-high 23 points, was fouled on a 3-point attempt and calmly sank all three free throws to help the Knights (9-10, 3-6 Sunshine State Conference) overcome a five-point deficit in the final 1:20.
Kira Harvey scored 11 points, while Marquis Lee and Quanisha Dixon each scored 10. Lynn won despite shooting just 32 percent in the second half.
Tijana Brdar led Eckerd (11-8, 4-5) with 18 points and was one of four Tritons in double figures. Kati Rausberg tallied 15 points and seven rebounds, while Ashley Lutz had 11 points and seven assists.
Linsey Niles contributed 10 points. Eckerd shot 54 percent from the field and made 12 3-pointers.
The Tritons led by as many as 13 points in the second half and were up 67-56 with 6:18 remaining. But Lynn outscored the hosts 18-6 the rest of the way.
After Lee made a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 70-67, Brdar scored on a layup to give the Tritons a 72-67 advantage with 1:23 to play.
Lynn got the lead down to 72-71 with 40 seconds left before Brdar made a free throw to make it 73-71 with 25 seconds remaining.
Lee missed a jumper, but Harvey got the crucial offensive rebound with 15 seconds left. Patterson then drew a foul on Taylor Young (six points, seven rebounds) behind the 3-point line before making the free throws.
Lutz's running jumper bounced off the rim as time expired.
Patterson scored 15 points in the second half, as the Knights avenged a 69-53 loss to Eckerd on Dec. 11 in Boca Raton.
The Tritons will return to action on Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. contest at Barry.
