LAKELAND, Fla. - After being edged by Florida Southern, 1-0, Friday night, the Eckerd College softball team suffered two more shut outs Saturday afternoon against the Moccasins. The Tritons dropped their first game 8-0 and dropped their second game 5-0 at Barnett Field.
The Mocs (19-12, SSC 5-4) was able to end the first game of the double-header in five innings since they were able to score eight runs within the first five innings of the game. Florida Southern's starting pitcher Christine Clark was able to hold the Tritons to just three hits, which came from Kristen Schurr, Mackenzie Dawson, and Emily Wiemken.
Florida Southern was able to pick up right where they left off, scoring all of their five runs in the bottom of the first inning by taking advantage of errors that were made by Eckerd. The Tritons were able to scatter five of their own hits through out the game, but unable to move base runners around to get a run on the board. Schurr and Dawson had their second hits of the day in game two, while Kirsten Cox, Emma Docking, and Kelly Coston picked up their first hits of the weekend.
The Tritons now drop to 10-23-1 overall and 2-5 in the Sunshine State Conference. They will return to action Monday, as they travel over to West Palm Beach, Florida to take on Palm Beach Atlantic. The first game of the double-header is set to start at 5:00 pm.
