First Half Onslaught Leads to 15-Point Victory for Men's Basketball Over Nova Southeastern

, Fla. - John Harper scored a career-high 24 points to lead all scorers while Zaronn Cann poured in 18 points to lead the Eckerd Tritons (13-7, 6-4 SSC) past the Nova Southeastern Sharks (12-9, 5-6 SSC), 93-78, on Saturday evening at the McArthur Center.

The Tritons got off to a blazing start, leading 20-5 with 15:03 to go in the half after a three ball by Woody Taylor. Eckerd increased its lead to 37-15 after a Harper trifecta with 7:26 left. Capping the first half ambush was a conventional three-point play converted by Wayne Sears with 1:28 left, pushing Eckerd's lead to 58-30, en route to a 58-34 lead.

In the second half, the Sharks managed to out-score Eckerd, 44-35, but it was too little, too late as the Tritons led by as much as 28 before settling for the 15-point victory.

For the game, Eckerd shot 54.5 percent from the field after shooting a blistering 70.4 percent in the first half. NSU managed a respectable 47.1 field goal percentage. The Tritons also rebounded the Sharks, 34-31.

Freshman guard Darrien Mack scored a career-high 14 points off the bench while Dale Carn added 10. Chris Gray eight assists against just two turnovers. Teddy Tassy led the Sharks with 15 points.

Eckerd will return to the hardwood on Wednesday, February 10 as it hosts Florida Southern at 7:30pm.
