Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd men's basketball team celebrated their seniors Lewis Lampley and Zaronn Cann in style as they defeated Saint Leo University (11-18, 4-11 SSC)  72-60 in an important Sunshine State Conference match up on Wednesday, February 24th.

Eckerd was in control for all but the first few minutes of the half.  Cann broke out in the first five minutes of the game, scoring six of his 10 points to bring Eckerd to an 8-5 lead over the Lions at the 15:54 mark.  The longest lead that the Tritons held over Saint Leo was at the 3:24 minute mark when Dale Carn sunk a two-pointer through the hoop to bring the score to 35-18.  The Lions scrambled their way to gain their first lead over the Tritons, but Eckerd's offense was unstoppable, bringing the first half score to 39-26.

Eckerd continued to put the hurt on the Lions, having a 21 point lead on Saint Leo at the 13:56 to make the score 51-30.  The closest that the Tritons let the Lions come to a lead was when Nick Agress brought the Eckerd fans to their feet when he stole the ball away from Jordan Praise, then ran to the hoop to dunk the ball for a 61-43 lead. Saint Leo continued to make a comeback throughout the half, going on an 8-0 run to make the score 61-51 at the 5:12 mark, but John Harper's two-pointer disrupted the run.  The game ended with an open slam dunk by Harper to bring the Tritons to a 17-8 overall record and a 10-5 record in the conference.

Harper ended the night with 19 points while Cann had 14 and seven rebounds.  Carn led the team in defense, having 14 total rebounds and one block.

The Tritons will be back in action on February 27th as they head over to Winter Garden to take on Rollins College in their final game of the regular season.  Tip off is set for 4:00 pm.
