ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After suffering a six game losing streak this weekend at the Eckerd College Triton Spring Invitational, the Eckerd softball team bounced back in shape, sweeping their double-header against NAIA Ave Maria University Tuesday night, shutting the Gyrenes out 8-0 in five innings and 8-0 in six innings at the Turley Athletic Complex.

Eckerd (5-9) scored five runs in the third inning, capitalizing on errors made by Ave Maria.  Three more runs came in the fifth inning due to more errors, giving the Tritons the win in the bottom of the fifth, eight-run ruling the Gyrenes.

Mackenzie Dawson was the start of the first game.  She won her second game of the season, pitching a one-hitter, while striking out two batters.  She also went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with one run and one run batted in.

Game two of the double-header had the same ending for Eckerd, ending the game in six innings due to the eight-run rule.  Ave Maria committed six errors, which gave them four unearned runs from the Tritons.  Meagan Camp excelled at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one run batted in.  Kelly Coston and Emma Docking also contributed two hits of their own.

Alex Koronkiewicz and Logan Rohrbach combined for a two-hitter for game two, while walking one batter and striking out seven.  Koronkiewicz improves her record to 3-4.

The Tritons will be back in action this weekend as they travel down to West Palm Beach to take on Northwood University in double-header action.  Game time is set for 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
