Women's Basketball Gets Off to Quick Start in SSC-Opening Win

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Eckerd College women's basketball team got off to a sizzling start during a 69-53 win at Lynn on Saturday.

Junior Linsey Niles scored a game-high 16 points, as the Tritons (7-2, 1-0 Sunshine State Conference) won their league opener. Krystal Charles continued her solid all-around play with 11 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Ashley Lutz and Kati Rausberg each added 11 points. Eckerd shot a season-high 61 percent and held Lynn to just 27 percent shooting.

Chelsea Patterson paced the Fighting Knights (4-4, 0-1) with 13 points but was held to 1-for-12 shooting. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for Lynn.

Eckerd, which won for the fourth time in its last five outings, put the game away early. Already leading 25-16 with seven minutes left in the first half, Eckerd closed the half on a 16-4 run – keyed by three consecutive layups by Tijana Brdar.

The Tritons were 5-for-10 from 3-point range and held Lynn to 22 percent shooting in the first half.

Eckerd led by as many as 25 points in the second half, with Lynn never getting closer than the final margin.

The Tritons will take a break for final exams before playing host to Francis Marion on Friday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the McArthur Center.
